Venice Beach, Vegas, Drag Shows, and Hotel Gyms, but no pool.

The tail end of my LA trip I stayed at my friend Bee’s place in Venice Beach.  It was a totally different scene than West Hollywood like I was used to.  Of course since I am friends with all hair stylists they all have to work weekends so I was kind of on my own during the day.  So since I had tons of time, I slept in then I went out for a run along the beach on the path.  It was an awesome run, super pretty, but for a New York girl like me, the sun was harsh and the wind was strong so it was tough.  Plus on random parts of the run I would run in the sand and do different exercises and sprints so I made it even harder on myself.  I wasn’t really paying attention to where I was going and before I knew it I was over 3.5 miles away from Bee’s apartment lol.  That meant I had to do another 3.5 miles just to get back!  woops.  I ended up doing 7.9 miles sheesh.

I also ended up super sunburnt and wiped out lol, I was knocked out by 9.30.  I felt so bad I feel asleep right in the middle of Bee’s living room with her and her boyfriend talking and watching TV haha.

The following day Bee and I hopped on a plane to Vegas, checked into our room at Treasure Island got Pho for dinner and then headed over to the Imperial Palace to go see Frank Marino’s Diva’s Drag Show.  We had fun, some of the girls where better than others but hey who doesn’t like drag shows.

My outfit: Dress: eShakti – Belt: Rainbow – Leggings: Forever21 – Shoes:  Platform Dr Martens … the only non-sandal/flip-flop shoe that I brought.

This morning I woke up early-ish and went to the hotel gym.  Who would have ever thought that me of all people would be one of those people that go to the gym on vacation.  There were quite a few of us down there too haha.  The gym was pretty nice it had tons of equipment, even arc trainers!  I didn’t want to keep Bee waiting for too long so I did an hour an a half, 45 min on the arc trainer and 45 minutes of strength exercises.

After I did that I came back up to the room, we got in our bathing suits and headed down to the pool.  Only to get there and see it be closed!!!!!!  All that stress looking for a bathing suit, and being all excited to rent a cabana for the day for nothing!  The weather went from sunny to cloudy to rain to the crazy rain that we have been getting in NYC in less than 15 minutes!

rain is on its way

What a crappy day to be in Vegas!!!  We got stuck in the hotel, ate here even though we really wanted to go to Hash House a go-go, then came back to the room to relax.  It’s finally getting nice out so maybe we will head over there for a late dinner.

— wanna read how bad it was here?  click on this article http://www.vcstar.com/news/2012/sep/11/helicopter-rescues-reported-after-vegas-area/ people had to be rescued with helicopters!

We have to be at the airport tomorrow no later than noon, but we might just wake up super early and try to get a teeny bit of pool time in because of course it is supposed to be nice the rest of the week!!! just our luck.  I am going to take this luck as a sign to not actually gamble lol.  If I can’t get good weather on my vacation I am sure as hell not going to win anywhere else haha

Boo to tomorrow heading back to my normal schedule, but I am excited to get home and see Jake and my kittie!

they love each other

The case of the incredible shrinking dress

Right before I left for LA my roommate Lydia took photos of me to celebrate my 35 pound loss.  I love the pictures, but my bangs prove why it is important to have hair and make-up on set lol. Dumb cowlicks always get in the way.  Other than that I love em!  This was also the first time I wore the new extensions that I made, which Robert hates because I wear them too messy and don’t brush them lol.  I guess Brooklyn is wearing off on me a little  which I never noticed until I walked around LA.

I love this dress.  I found it at Daffy’s in a pile of old lady dresses, it was the only one there and it fit!  And the funny thing is that it still fits, because every time I drop it off to get washed it comes back smaller and smaller, it’s kind of working out to my advantage that my laundromat shrinks some of my stuff doesn’t it.  And of course I had to highlight my Irregular Choice shoes!  This is the first time I ever wore them outside, I was kind of sad to scratch the cool bottoms up, that is the hardest thing about Irregular Choice shoes, the soles are so cool its hard to want to walk on them.

I don’t have very clear photos of me wearing the dress in the past, but for comparison here is a photo of me that Steve Prue took for me to send in when Hair Battle Spectacular contacted me to audition for the show and a photo from two years ago when I was in Vegas for my bff’s wedding. Big difference right?

Our First Spin class

I have been in LA for two full days, I have indulged in a lot of crappy food.. Well not literally a ton, but i have definitely eaten worse than I would have if I were in NY.  I kind of think that it is funny that everyone acts like you can eat so healthy in LA but I feel like there are way more junk food and burger joints than healthy spots.  There are soooo many burger places. sheesh.

One of the things that I had (which was amazing) was a butterscotch drumstick from a place called Milk

I figured It since I went out running and stopped at a park to do some calisthenics I deserved a little treat. right?

One of the things that I forgot about California is it has hills.  Its not flat like NY so that added more of a challenge to running outside and the sun was way out so I got a little burnt. Here was my route, it was pretty simple, I didn’t run as much as I normally would have but I did a lot more squats and burpees and stuff

My friend Robert, has been hosting me since I got here.  Unfortunately he has had to work while I am here but one of his clients is a spinning instructor at Up Dog Fitness and invited us to a class since we never did it before.

The class started at 8.15 and I am not going to lie I had to work kind of hard to convince Robert to be excited but we got up, got ready and walked on over.  I had no clue what to expect, especially from a studio in West Hollywood (apparently they do a broadway musical spin class lol.)

We showed up and our teacher Graham was super friendly and told us that it was a difficult class to try for our first time, but to sit down on the seat when we had to and stuff like that then he strapped us to our bikes and on we went warming up.

The whole class was about 50 minutes long, and it was hard!  The seat hurt my butt, my quads which were already sore from all the stuff I did yesterday, but now they are extra sore.  I think if I do the class next time I will rent the special shoes.  Being strapped in wasn’t as comfortable because my sneakers didn’t give me any support in my arch for it so that was a little ouchy.

Robert and I finished it, were super sweaty but we still were smiling.  It was actually super fun!

That was Robert and I smiling with our protein shakes.  I was super bummed because again my heart rate monitor went crazy, and stopped measuring my heart rate half way through and stopped counting calories, but it still kept time.  Kind of annoying.  I would have liked to know how many calories I burned, but Graham said it was probably about 600 or so, so I will take it hehe. My monitor never did the double line thing before, I am hoping it means the battery is dying?  Even though it shouldn’t.

When we got home Robert took control of my roots and colored my hair, thank god.. they were insanely long and now I look so much better lol.

yay!  no roots! Only a few more days left in LA with some more friends to catch up with, then onto Vegas on Monday!  Can’t wait!

bathing suits… ughhhh

Probably the best way to make you feel bad about yourself is to try on a bathing suit.  So maybe not everyone feels that way, but I know I do.  I’m not huge into swimming. I am a high maintenance chick.  I know it doesn’t totally seem that way with all the mud runs and stuff, but I generally don’t like being somewhere when I don’t have make up on or my hair done.  So I think the last time I actually wore a bathing suit was, well I can’t even remember.

Then something clicked in my head and all the sudden all I wanted to do was swim, maybe it was the heat this summer, I don’t know, but when Brandi and I booked our room in Vegas for September, all I had in my head was swimming in the hotel pool.  So I went searching for a bathing suit.

I already had a few things going against me the first being its the end of August, sure everything is on sale, but they are also sold out.  Second what the heck size am I since  I had to order online.

That is the suit I bought… I thought it would be flattering with the draping on the front.  I wasn’t expecting to look like the girl in the picture but i didn’t think it would be a disaster.  I suppose it isn’t horrible but it definetly isn’t made that well.  I ordered a size larger than I thought I would be (because it said to) and it is slightly too big so it doesn’t like squeeze me in at all like I hoped, but the way it was printed it actually turns almost sheer on the back.  Should I do a test soak in the shower to make sure that it doesn’t turn see through when its wet? lol.  I also apparently have a long torso, who would have thought, I am only 5’2 on a good day, and I am kind of too long for this bathing suit.  I honestly thought by now I would be a little more comfortable with myself.  I think what is taking its toll on me now is only having things that actually fit half the time.  So many of my clothes hang on me funny that now I just constantly feel frumpy.  Then putting on a bathing suit last night sealed the deal.

I realize I have lost a lot of weight already, but I am still no where near the goal that I am still not sure of other than “I want to be happy with my appearance”.  But seeing myself in a bathing suit made me feel so vulnerable that I know the first time I step foot out by the pool I will be super uncomfortable, but we’ll see.

Am I still going to hang by the pool in Vegas?  Probably.  Am I going to buy a cute cover up?  Absolutely.  I am also going to look for a different better suit when I am out in LA since NYC is wiped out of anything decent.  All I care about right now is getting out of New York and going out to see my friends in LA and having fun!

AND

The countdown has begun.  I am finally up to 34 pounds, 1 pound left until I reach another little milestone in my journey.  These last few pounds have been so tough to get rid of, I have switched up my routines and been working harder than ever, but the pounds are coming off slower and slower.  Hopefully I can hit the 35 pound mark while I am in LA, and maybe I can get one of my awesome LA photographer friends to do a quick shoot for me to celebrate hehe.
